Brief History

History of our Indian Post dates back to 1774 when Warren Hastings, the first Governor General of Bengal with supervisory powers over Bombay and Madras opened the postal service to public. There was even a post office act in 1854.

Now, Indian Postal Service has over 155,000 post offices throughout India making it the most widely distributed post office system in the world.

India Post provides not only postal services but also financial services which are within easy reach for a common man.
